The town of Pego is located in the immediate vicinity of the resort of Denia Costa Blanca and is surrounded on all sides by mountains. The history of the town dates back to the Arab conquest. The area around Pego has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. There are also historic buildings such as the sixteenth century Church of Our Lady of the Assumption (Arquiprestal Church). In Pego you can also visit the Pego-Oliva Nature Park. Typical local dishes include crosta (rice baked in an oven with pork parts), butifarra (blood and onion sausage), peas and beaten eggs (baked on top), arroz calvados (rice sauce with beans, turnips, chicken and pork) and paella with snails.
