Gran Alacant extends to the north of the municipality of Santa Pola. In the past decade, the town has transformed from a dry area that was almost deserted after the summer months to a centre with more than 11,000 registered residents and tourists. It has a public school, a medical clinic and public library, a post office and a gymnasium. In addition, a huge shopping centre, Gran Alacant, has been built here.
