Medina Sidonia is a town and municipality in the province of Cadiz in the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. It is considered by some to be the oldest city in Europe, used as a military defence site because of its elevated position. Its name is derived from Medina (Arab city) and Sidonia (Sidon), meaning 'City of Sidon'. The city is characterised by medieval walls and neat narrow cobbled streets framed by rows of houses.
